SOUTH BEND, INDIANA – Abtrex Industries, Inc. has launched a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Świdnica, Poland. Abtrex International, sp. Z. o. o. will be installing rubber linings in new railroad tank cars with production beginning in March 2016.

Abtrex is a custom fabricator of process equipment, including tanks and pipe assemblies, specializing in abrasion- and corrosion-resistant linings and coatings. Certified by the American Association of Railroads and Federal Railroad Administration, its Houston, Texas, facility is dedicated to rubber lining tank cars. Abtrex’s experience and expertise led to the contract in Poland to line tank cars destined for Saudi Arabia.

Abtrex was started in 1969 and currently employs approximately 100 workers in its plants in South Bend, Indiana; Inkster, Michigan; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Houston, Texas. The company says some of its workers will temporarily relocate to Poland to staff the new facility and train local workers under Glenn Lewis, who will serve as Director of Operations for Abtrex International. Lewis had lived and worked in Poland for 16 years with firms ranging from architecture to manufacturing prior to joining Abtrex.

Abtrex President Keith Byars stated the company is quickly growing on an international level and already serves customers in more than five countries. The Poland office will help the company assist its international customers better.
